Not only does Joe have a considerable amount of industry knowledge, but he’s also a brilliant leader with a big vision and an eye on the future. If only Joe’s determination could be bottled and sold!
But what does Joe do, we hear you ask? Well, for the past ten years, he’s been shaking up the property world with smart tech, bringing fresh solutions to the UK conveyancing and lender markets. He developed the EDM Property Risk Hub, a game-changing platform that helps lenders automate property risk decisions. Big names like Nationwide Building Society, Bank of Ireland and Barclays Bank jumped on board, and the platform was snapped up by Hometrack for a cool £40m.
After that huge win, Joe took the reins as CEO of the leading Prop Tech supplier, tmGroup, where he spearheaded their growth. The company provides conveyancers with a range of digital solutions, offering property data, searches and reports to streamline their processes. After the business was successfully sold for over £90m, Joe set his sights on a fresh challenge, taking the helm as CEO of PEXA. Now he’s leading the charge in transforming and streamlining remortgaging and the home-buying process, working in collaboration with the Bank of England.
A firm believer in modernising conveyancing through digitalisation, Joe is perfectly placed to drive forward initiatives that make home buying and selling smoother for everyone involved. He’s determined to shake off the industry’s reliance on outdated, siloed tech – and replace it with solutions that actually work. Smart, respected and a stand-up guy, Joe is the kind of leader who turns bold ideas into real change.
Meet Mark Evans - the Vice President of The Law Society of England and Wales. A former property lawyer with more than 28 years in practice, he’s seen it all, and then some, in the world of property and private client law.
He’s been a long-reining contributor to the Law Society in one way, shape or another, starting as a member of the Welsh Committee for nine years, where he chaired it for four of those. He also sat on the council for more than eight years and has been a member of the board and president, and chair of the Cheshire and North Wales Law Society. Naturally, that steady marathon of dedication led him to become Deputy Vice President in October 2023, Vice President in 2024, and he’s lacing up for the presidency later this year.
On top of all that, he teaches at the University of Law, where he’s passing his baton of knowledge onto the next generation of solicitors. He’s on a mission to champion the excellence, diversity and innovation of the profession. All while upping the ante in legal education and training. Setting the pace, you could say!
And why all the running puns? Well, Mark is a keen runner and he even set up a running group called LegalRunner to help legal minds keep on track with their mental health and wellbeing. Talk about going the extra mile!
We’ve paired this duo together because of their podcast Bricks and Banter, but make no mistake, Laura and Tom are each powerhouses in their own right! First up, though, let’s talk about their podcast! It’s not stuffy legal chat, these guys dive into all things conveyancing with a fresh, fun and light-hearted twist. They tackle the challenges, sprinkle in some humour and keep things real. We love how they advocate for everyone in the industry to support one another.
Laura works at Bell Lamb & Joynson Solicitors and became head of conveyancing in 2018, followed by partner in 2020. And in November, she took home the coveted Female Trailblazer of the Year at the Modern Law Conveyancing Awards – proof of her vision, leadership and unstoppable passion. Laura lifts everyone around her, inspiring her colleagues and beyond.
Meanwhile, Tom is running the show at Rowlinsons Solicitors as Property Department Director and even sits on the board of the Conveyancing Association. He can smash through even the most highly complex of transactions, and those high-value ones to boot!
Fun fact - Laura also worked at Rowlinsons, just not at the same time – if they had, this dream team could have paired up a lot sooner! Well worth a listen, tune into their Podcast on your next gym session.
Peter coined the phrase “the black hole of conveyancing.” Then he stared into this black hole and decided to light it up!
With a 20-year background in tech and a brain wired for problem-solving, Peter founded The Partnership 15 years ago, a law firm built on old-school customer service and new-school efficiency using tech to speed up and improve processes. The firm quickly realised the tech they were using was too good to keep to themselves and Legalito was born. It’s a game-changing platform that’s banished email chaos and brought calm to conveyancers across the UK to exchange information across parties. It’s award-winning, inbox-slimming software. Peter gets that conveyancers have been burnt by useless clunky technology in the past, but he’s built something different - something that actually works and is simple to use. Administrative work has long been a burden on conveyancers and Legalito saves time and money, as well as reducing risk as all the information is in one place.
Peter is a hands-on, sleeves-rolled-up, go-the-extra-mile leader that’s inspiring. It’s no surprise he’s invited to speak at events; as a gifted communicator, he’s a refreshing voice in the sector!
There’s a need for speed in property transactions – and that’s what prompted Daniel to set up Property Searches Direct, a company that helps to make the moving process more collaborative and efficient.
Having started out in estate agency back in 1993, Daniel then moved into asset management at Move With Us where he wore many hats. It was when he got involved in the Searches industry that he found his calling and wanted to demystify Searches for sellers.
Property Searches Direct expanded to include Conveyancer Insights with mystery shop maestros Mike Stainsby lifting the lid on what really goes on in law firms. Mike is the commercial director of Property Searches Direct. For his work at Conveyancing Insights, he helps conveyancers to understand their local market, dishing out illuminating insights to law firms that they never knew they needed! Conveyancing Insights helps firms truly understand their local market and shows them how to up their game in ways that actually boost the bottom line. How? By doing a bit of undercover work. The team mystery shops your firm - and your competitors - then gives you honest, no-fluff feedback. From how your handler answers the phone to whether your quote is sent - and how good it is if it is sent - to whether your team builds any rapport at all. They go deep with competitor analysis too: what your rivals charge, how customers and estate agents really perceive you and where you’re falling short.
Then comes the good stuff - practical advice on how to improve, staff training tips, advice on responding to online reviews, ways to work better with local agents and new ideas to bring in business. Think of it as a fresh pair of eyes on your law firm, and the results are often eye-opening!
As if Property Searches Direct wasn’t busy enough, the company also launched Instruct A Conveyancer, to keep regional work local and connect good law firms with clients and Wills24-7 to provide their LegallyQuoting technology to private client teams and estate planners.
A podcast extraordinaire, Daniel is very familiar with the microphone, churning out helpful podcasts on his Conveyancer Insights and Property Searches Direct YouTube channels. A passion for the industry just naturally exudes from Daniel!
Mike, meanwhile, also has roots in the industry. He started out as an estate agent, moved into legal services and built up years of expertise in property searches, tech and business development for law firms. So, he knows conveyancing inside out and how to make things better.
People trust Daniel and Mike, people respect them, and when it comes to making meaningful changes in the property world, both Daniel and Mike are leading the charge. Head off to LinkedIn and follow both of these gentlemen pronto!
